STCC 2022 – Science & Technology Convergence Conference

On September 28 and 29, 2022, The CEO of NCIE, Hayk Margarian, and the Advisor on Technology Transfer, Vardan Gevorgyan, participated in the Science and Technology Convergence Conference 2022 at Best Western Plus Congress Hotel Yerevan, Armenia.

After the success of STCC 2019, STCC2022 was organized by the Catalyst Foundation, an initiative of the SmarteGateVC Venture Fund, in collaboration with the Institute of Informatics and Automation Problems of The Republic of Armenia. STCC provides a platform for community building in niche directions to share knowledge and foster collaboration, along with building ground for the potential repatriation of required talent from leading universities.

To address the issues crucial for advancing scientific research and technology transfer activities, the conference provided a unique opportunity to bring together international representatives of academia and the tech industry, government representatives, the international donor community, and other significant stakeholders. The two-day conference was divided into three sections: AI, Robotics and Control, Aerospace, Computational Biology, Armenia’s regional excellence, and the age of turbulence and opportunities.

The Technology Transfer Advisor of NCIE, Vardan Gevorgyan, was a speaker during the first Section “Dream Big, Act Precise: Towards Armenia’s regional Excellence.” He presented the function of the National Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, being the first public technology transfer office, focusing on the commercialization of inventions, matchmaking scientists with businesses, and improving policies in science and business.

STCC 2022 welcomed more than 80 local and international (University of Maryland, Leipzig, UIUC, KAUST, etc.) speakers. It engaged the attendees in more than 30 panel discussions to hear different perspectives on how to rebuild and advance science in Armenia by examining the best international practices on science funding mechanisms and their possible replication in Armenia.
