James Philip Bagian’s visit to the NCIE SNCO

On September 12, 2022, the National Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship received James Philip Bagian, an American physician, engineer, and the first NASA astronaut of Armenian descent.
The meeting consisted of two parts. First, Mr. Bagian met behind closed doors with the management staff of the National Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where he got acquainted with the activities of the Center - the technology transfer office, the process of stimulating the commercialization of technologies, and scientific research. The Armenian astronaut spoke about the idea of opening a master's program at one of the universities of the Republic of Armenia.
In the second part of the meeting, a round table was organized, during which the participants received answers to their questions. He urged Armenians never to give up and always strive to go forward.

At the end of the meeting, the CEO of the National Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Hayk Margarian, as a sign of friendship and strengthening cooperation around further joint projects, presented Dr. Bagyan with the flagship book of medieval Armenian clergyman, Christian theologian, mystic poet, musician, and philosopher. James Bagian was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1952 and became a NASA astronaut in 1980. He gave his first flight on the Discovery ship to his small homeland - Armenia. During his career, the cosmonaut spent 337 hours in space.
In the USA, James is better known by the surname of Bagian. Now the astronaut's career is in the past, as Bagian today heads the Center for Medical Engineering and Patient Safety at the University of Michigan. He is a doctor of medical sciences. Bagian has three awards: "A Medal for Bravery for Outstanding Achievements" and two "NASA medals for a spaceflight."
